Week 1 — Witnessing for Jesus
October 19–23Scripture — Acts 1:8 (NIV)
“But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth “Backstory
After His resurrection, Jesus prepared His disciples to share the good news about Him. He promised that the Holy Spirit would give them power to be His witnesses, beginning in Jerusalem and reaching throughout the world. Their message centered on Jesus—who He is, what He has done, and His resurrection.Connection to Your Musical Journey
Learning worship music includes understanding the message we share. Songs can tell others about Jesus and express our response to Him. As you learn to sing or play, take time to understand what the words say. Our witness also includes how we treat people while we learn and share music.Journal Response
Think about a worship song you are learning or already know. What does it tell you about Jesus? Write about how understanding that message can shape the way you sing, play, and share it with others. Younger students may draw a picture and explain their response aloud.Learning Outcome
Students can explain that Jesus promised the Holy Spirit’s power to His witnesses and describe how worship music can communicate a message about Him. -
Week 2 — Responding to the Gospel
October 26–30Scripture — Acts 2:38 (NIV)
“Peter replied, 'Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.”Backstory
At Pentecost, Peter told the gathered crowd about Jesus’ crucifixion and resurrection, proclaiming Him as Lord and Messiah. The people were deeply moved and asked what they should do. Peter called them to repent and be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ. Repentance means turning away from sin and turning toward God.Connection to Your Musical Journey
Worship songs often speak about forgiveness, salvation, and following Jesus. Understanding these words helps us consider our own response to the gospel. As you learn a song, think about what its message means for your life. Singing about following Jesus invites us to reflect on whether our everyday choices express that commitment.Journal Response
How can I live out the message of following Jesus that I sing about in worship?Learning Outcome
Students can identify Peter’s call to repent and be baptized, explain repentance, and describe how a worship song’s message connects with following Jesus in everyday life. -
Week 3 — Growing Together in Faith
November 2–6Scripture — Acts 2:42 (NIV)
“They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer.”Backstory
After receiving Peter’s message and being baptized, the new believers continued learning from the apostles. They devoted themselves to fellowship, breaking bread, and prayer. Their faith grew within a community where they learned, shared, and cared for one another.Connection to Your Musical Journey
Learning worship music gives us opportunities to grow alongside others. We learn to listen, receive guidance, encourage each other, and contribute what we are learning. Whether we are in a lesson, rehearsing together, or sharing a song, our attitudes can help others feel supported. Growing as a musician also provides opportunities to become a thoughtful and caring member of a worshiping community.Journal Response

Week 4 — Praying for Courage
November 9–13Scripture — Acts 4:29 (NIV)
“Now, Lord, consider their threats and enable your servants to speak your word with great boldness.”Backstory
Peter and John had been threatened and ordered to stop speaking about Jesus. After returning to the other believers, they shared what had happened. Together, the believers prayed for boldness to continue speaking God’s Word, even while facing opposition.Connection to Your Musical Journey
Sharing a worship song can give us an opportunity to express our faith in Jesus. Sometimes we may feel nervous or uncertain about sharing that message with others. Although this passage describes believers facing threats for speaking about Jesus, their prayer reminds us to turn to God for courage. As we prepare our music, we can also pray for help to share its message with sincerity and care.Journal Response

Week 5 — A Heart to Serve
November 16–20Scripture — Acts 6:3 (NIV)
“Brothers and sisters, choose seven men from among you who are known to be full of the Spirit and wisdom. We will turn this responsibility over to them.”Backstory
As the church grew, some widows were being overlooked in the daily distribution of food. The apostles asked the believers to choose seven men known to be full of the Spirit and wisdom to oversee this responsibility. The church took action so that those in need would receive care while the apostles continued their work of prayer and teaching.Connection to Your Musical Journey
Learning worship music prepares us to contribute to the lives of others. We can share a song to encourage someone, support those singing alongside us, or help another student feel included. Serving also happens in simple moments, such as helping set up, listening patiently, and celebrating someone else’s progress. While in Philippi, Paul and Silas were beaten and put in prison. With their feet secured in stocks, they prayed and sang hymns to God around midnight. The other prisoners listened as they expressed their faith in the middle of suffering.Connection to Your Musical Journey
Worship music gives us a way to express prayer and praise during difficult times. The songs we learn can help us remember God’s truth and put our thoughts into words when we struggle to express them.
